How to begin?

Register and login to complete these trainings (registration is free).

Internet Explorer (IE)

  1. If pop-ups have been blocked, you will see a dialogue box on the bottom of the screen.
  2. Click "Options for this site" and then select "Always allow." to see the modules. The site will be added to the exceptions list, which you can manage in the Settings/Internet Options/Privacy tab.

Firefox

  1. If pop-ups have been blocked, you will see a dialogue in yellow on the top of the screen.
  2. Click "Options" and then select "Allow pop-ups for eSBIRT.org" to see the modules. The site will be added to the exceptions list, which you can manage in the Settings/Options/Content tab.

Chrome

  1. If pop-ups have been blocked, you'll see the blocked pop-up alert icon in the address bar. Click the icon to see a list of the blocked pop-ups.
  2. Click the link for the pop-up window that you'd like to see.
  3. To always see pop-ups for the site, select "Always show pop-ups from [site]." The site will be added to the exceptions list, which you can manage in the Content Settings dialog.


The video examples can be accessed most easily when the Internet Explorer (IE) browser is used.

If you are unable to use IE try:

  • Click on the YouTube URL to the right of the video button. OR
  • Save the module file (a PDF file) on you computer, open it with the Adobe Reader, then click on the video links. OR
  • Copy the YouTube URL to the right of the video button and paste it into a new browser window.

Screening
Why and how to administer the brief screen to identify patients who need a closer look at their alcohol or substance use risks. (Two training modules and quiz, about 30 minutes.)
 


Certification Requirements:
  • Any staff
  • Register/Login on this site

Brief Education / Intervention
Assess patients for risky alcohol and drug use and use the personal risk assessment report to guide a brief motivational education session to those at moderate levels of risk. (Five training modules and quizzes, about 70 minutes.)
 


Certification Requirements:
  • Any staff
  • Current Screening Certification
  • Complete brief education and assessment training
  • Certificate may not be available for a few days.

Brief Coaching
Coach patients with significant alcohol and drug use risks in a 6 session manualized process using motivational enhancement and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. (Training modules, quiz, sample recording and phone/Skype feedback session, about 4 hours.)
 


Certification Requirements:
  • Any staff licensed to provide substance abuse and/or mental health services in Missouri
  • Current Brief Education and Assessment Certification
  • Complete brief coaching sample recording and feedback session
  • $100 certification fee (payment link on Brief Coaching Training page)
  • AFTER payment, upload recorded sample(s) of Brief Coaching for approval and email Keith Eldridge to let him know of the audio upload.
  • Certification may take a week or more.
